Al Nasser set for Arab clubs volleyball quarters

Bahrain’s Al Nasser Club will be taking on North Refineries SC of Iraq today in the quarter-finals of the 41st Arab Clubs Volleyball Championship for Men, currently being played in Egypt.

The match is scheduled for a 3pm start, Bahrain time.

Nasser are heavy favourites in the clash having completed the preliminary round of the tournament with an unblemished record in five games as they finished first in Group A.

North Refineries, on the other hand, won two and lost three of their fixtures, placing fourth in Group B and claiming the final spot in the round of eight.

In the other quarter-final matches, Al Ahli SC of Qatar play Al Seeb of Oman, Kazma of Kuwait take on Al Wakrah of Qatar and Al Ahly of Egypt play Asswehly SC of Libya.

Nasser won all five of their games in the competition’s opening phase, against Almeena VC of Yemen, Al Sadaqa VC of Palestine, Asswehly, Kazma and Qatar’s Ahli.

The Bahrainis, coached by Brazilian Sergio Luis Cunha, are led by top talents Ali Ebrahim, Mohammed Yaqoob, team captain Younes Abdulkarim, Yousef Khalid, Mohammed Omar, Ebrahim Mohammed, Hussain Mahdi, Mohammed Jassim and Jassim Al Turki.

The rest of their squad includes Jassim Hamza, Ahmed Issa, Ali Sultan, Mohammed Mirza, Hussain Al Haiki, Hussain Al Jashi, Mohammed Jaffar and Yousef Mohammed Tahir.

The team recently welcomed Bahrain Olympic Committee vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa to one of their games, accompanied by Bahrain Basketball Association president Captain Waleed Al Alawi and other officials.
