Bahrain is set to host the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship this May 14 to 21.

This was confirmed yesterday by the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA).

It has yet to be determined the number of teams that will be participating from the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

However, the BVA have announced that Bahraini powerhouses Al Ahli will be flying the Kingdom’s flag in the event.

Aside from being a continental championship, the winners of the annual tournament qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship.

This year’s event will be the second time the Kingdom has staged the competition.

It previously held the 2007 edition, which was won by Paykan Tehran of Iran.

A Bahrain club has yet to step onto the podium in the tournament. Last year’s competition was also won by Paykan at home, where they defeated Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds in the final.

The BVA, headed by president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, who is also the chairman of the higher organising committee, has approved the executive committee for the event, to be headed by BVA secretary general Feras Al Helwachi.

Al Helwachi, who is also the tournament director, held the committee’s first coordination meeting of the executive committee at the BVA headquarters.

He discussed all the organisational needs and aspects related to the tournament with the heads of the working committees.
