Formula 1 has become more appealing to the younger generation, and this was evident at the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2023 where scores of teenagers and children were seen at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) enjoying the weekend’s events.
According to reports, the average age of an F1 fan is 32, but in recent times, F1 has seen an influx in its support. In 2021, F1 was the fastest growing major sporting championship in the world regarding follower growth, and it experienced the highest engagement with social media posts, compared to other major sports, reports claim.
The Daily Tribune interviewed some of the younger race-goers and they cheerfully relayed that they are becoming big supporters of motorsport.
Being “first time attendees to the Grand Prix”, they have been thrilled with what they have seen at BIC.
“Tik-tok is full of entertaining edits of the races and drivers that perked our interest in the sport and inspired us to see the track in person, as well as the drivers,” said Jeuneux and Maya.
They added that they were surprised with how diverse the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is in terms of the fascinating off-track entertainment.
“There is entertainment for everyone of all ages!” they said. Another excited attendee added: “This is my first time attending F1, as I have just recently found the passion for the sport.”
He said that his main enthusiasm was previously focused on other sports like football; however, developed a newfound passion for racing and will begin to attend other major destinations in F1.
“I wish I had found my interest in the sport much sooner, but I am now anticipating what the other tracks and destinations hold,” he added.
