Bahrain juniors top GCC golf leaderboard

Bahrain’s junior national golf team, spearheaded by Abdulrahman Hasan Mehaizea, continued to top the leaderboard after the second round in the 14th GCC Juniors U18 Golf Championship, being played at the Royal Golf Club, Riffa Views.
The tournament is being held alongside the 25th GCC Men Golf Championship.
The Bahraini juniors hold a comfortable nine stroke lead over the rest of the field with only one round to go in the 54-hole event.
They played a 16-over-par total on day two yesterday to add to their 10-over-par score on day one.
Oman follow with a 35-over-par total, while the UAE are third 38 over, Kuwait fourth 73 over and Qatar fifth at 75 over par.
Mehaizea leads the individual scores with a 13-over-par 157 gross following his 77 and 80 scores from the two days of play.
He is four shots ahead of Oman’s Ahmed Alwahaibi and five in front of Ayman Albusaidi, also of Oman.
Bahrain’s Abdulrahman Ebrahim Alseedi is currently fourth six shots behind his leading teammate, while Abdulla Rashid Saeed is ninth, 23-over-par, as the third player for Bahrain.
Today’s action will conclude the juniors’ event, in which only the top two scores from each day are counted towards the team total.
Amongst the men, Bahrain are third from six competing teams with a 30-over-par total. Qatar top the rankings at 12 over, followed by the UAE in second at 20 over par.
Saudi Arabia (+52), Oman (+65) and Kuwait (+143) complete the standings.
Bahrain’s Ahmed Mohamed Al Zayed lost his lead on the individual rankings after day two and dropped to fourth after playing an 81 yesterday to go to a six-over-par total of 150.
Saleh Ali Alkaabi of Qatar rose to the solo lead with a threeunder-par score of 141. He played a 69 yesterday. Emirati Ahmed Skaik (+1) and Khalid Al Masaood (+3) follow in second and third, respectively.
Amongst the other Bahrainis, Khalifa Duaij Al Kaabi is seventh on 11 over, Fahad Al Hakamd is 10th at 16 over, and Khalifa Mohammed Khalifa ranks 12th at 17 over par.
The seniors’ tournament is being played over 72 holes. Only the best three scores in each day are counted towards the team total.
