Muharraq escaped with a hard-earned 66-64 victory over Al Hala last night in their week 21 game of the 2022/2023 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Bader Abdulla Malabes buried two free-throws with 38.9 seconds remaining to give Muharraq a four-point cushion, and then Tony Farmer quickly replied with a lay-up to bring Hala back to within a single possession.
But after Malabes missed a three-point attempt on the other end, Farmer could not bury a potential game-winner as time expired.
Malik Wineglass finished with 22 points to lead Muharraq in the win, while Malabes had 16. Farmer scored 31 for Hala, while Alwatheq Ali chipped in with 12.
Muharraq improved to a 15-4 win-loss record to tie defending champions Manama at the top of the standings.
Hala dropped to a 9-10 mark. Meanwhile, in yesterday’s other game, Hassan Albossta poured in 43 points while registering a triple-double to help lift Al Ettihad to a 136-83 romp of Sitra.
Albossta also took down 16 rebounds and dished out 12 assists in the big win, in which Ettihad led by as many as 56 points.
All 12 of their players scored at least four points in the game. Abbas Fadhel Jassim had 17 to pace Sitra in the loss. Ettihad improved to a 13-6 record while Sitra dropped to a 4-14 mark.
