Anacin wins singles

In an all-Philippine Men’s +45 Singles final, fourth seed Ronald Anacin won through to take the title by winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 against sixth seed Norman Abastillas last night in the 29th GPIC Open Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair. Meanwhile, the Men’s Super Doubles got underway with Mauricio Cardozo and Savvas Konstantiou battling hard to defeat Isa Al Sammak and Ammar Al Shaikh 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 in the most competitive match, while Abdul Rahman Showaiter had a scare in the second set before beating Fabio Miyauchi and Adolf Mendonca 6-1, 7-5.

In the other two matches played, Khalid Janahi and Khalid Nass were 6-3, 6-3 winners over Ali Alasfoor and Roy Boutagy and Nilesh Parmar and Ahmed Al Mahmood got the better of M AAbi Alfath and Jassim Adam 6-1, 6-2. 

Other winners who received walkover wins, were Ashraf Atabani and Khalid Qayoom, and Sundara Ram and Yousef Fakhro, against Isa Al Jawdar and M A Rahman Shehab, and Ramon De Jesus and Allen James Vergara respectively.

The super doubles continues today with the Round of 16 headed by the top two seeds Hassan and Karim Abdulnabi and Abdulrahman and Ahmed Janahi and other pairs including Yousif Qaed and Rashid Obaidly, Abdul Rahman Shehab and Mohammed Abdul Latif, Bader Abdul A’al and Antonio Catito and Nader and Mohammed Abdul A’al.

The Men’s Singles +55 quarter final round also takes place today and +45 Doubles action starts on Wednesday with the top two seeds being Stalin Joseph, Uday Shanbhag and Kamal, Ali Khonji, while Thursday sees the Super Singles underway with the top four seeds being Yousif Qaed, Karim Redha, Lars Klaverstijn and Hassan Redha. Matches start each day from 6pm except Friday’s when none are scheduled.
