Bahrain were yesterday sent crashing out of the 2023 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup following a disheartening 0-10 loss to Iran in their quarter-final clash.

The Bahrainis conceded two goals in the first period and then another three in the second to head into the final frame with a virtually insurmountable task in their hopes of fighting back.

But instead of putting up a fight, the nationals gave up another five goals in the third and final period to close out the heavy defeat.

Moslem Mesigar and goalkeeper Seyedmahdi Mirjajili both had a brace for the Iranians, while also on target for their team were Amir Hosein Fartkhouni, Mohammad Farahabadi, Ali Mirshekari, Abbas Hassanabad and Mohammadali Hassanabad.

Bahrain’s Abdulla Abdullatif also conceded an own goal late in the game.

With the result, the Bahrainis have been sent packing while Iran are through to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the other quarter-final between Oman and China.

Also yesterday, the UAE beat hosts Thailand 4-2 to make it through to the final four, where they will take on the winner of today’s contest between Japan and Kuwait.

The tournament is being played in Pattaya, Thailand.

It also acts as a qualification competition for the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

The Bahrainis, coached by Sadeq Marhoon, competed in the championship with a a 12-member squad that included Khalifa Ibrahim, Ahmed Abdulrasool, Rashed Jamal, Mohammed Ashoor, Abdulla Abdullatif, Salman Al Yaqoobi, Mohammed Darwish, Mahran Maatouq, Mohammed Yacoob, Hamza Al Balooshi, Hassan Ebrahim and Issa Jumaa.
