Dar Kulaib were last night crowned champions of the 2022/2023 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.

The winners captured the coveted title with a resounding 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Al Najma in the second game of their best-of-three championship series, thus completing a two-game sweep.

Dar Kulaib claimed their third crown in the history of Bahrain’s top-tier volleyball league.

They had previously won in the 2015/2016 and 2018/2019 seasons, when they defeated Al Nasser and Muharraq in the finals, respectively.

Both Dar Kulaib and Najma were presented their respective trophies and medals in an awarding ceremony held after the contest.

Taking third place overall earlier this week were Al Ahli, who had already been given their bronze medals.

Giving out the awards last night were Bahrain Olympic Committee member and Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

Fans of both clubs packed Isa bin Rashid Arena at the BVA headquarters at Isa Sports City in Riffa, making for a rocking atmosphere in the game.

Dar Kulaib’s national team superstar Mohammed Yaqoob was once again instrumental in helping his team secure the win yesterday.

With the score tied at 21-all late in the third set, Yaqoob registered Dar Kulaib’s next three points with superb spikes.

They then finally closed out the match following an uncharacteristic error at the net by Najma’s Estonian professional Kevin Saar, who was also in fine form throughout the game.

Earlier last night in the opening set, Dar Kulaib were first to double digits and powered to a 15-12 lead with a Hassan Alaiwi smash.

A double block by Yaqoob and Hassan Abbas then extended their advantage to 17-12, and later spikes from Argentinian professional Juan Barrera and veteran Bahraini talent Mahmoud Abdulwahed gave Dar Kulaib the 1-0 edge.
