Bahrain’s Manama were eliminated last night from further contention in the 2023 King Salman Club Cup—the region’s top tournament organised by the Union of Arab Football Associations, also known as the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Manama were ousted from the competition by Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan in the first qualification round.
The Bahrainis lost 2-4 on aggregate despite winning 2-1 in the second-leg last night, played at the Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium at Muharraq Club in Arad.
Manama were defeated, however, 0-3 in the first-leg—giving them a huge challenge in yesterday’s return fixture.
Issa Moussa and Ebrahim Al Khattal were on target for the Bahrainis in last night’s contest, while David Abagna scored for Hilal.
Abagna opened their account in the 23rd minute, which put his side up 4-0 on aggregate.
But Manama were quick to reply, with Moussa scoring on a penalty in the 32nd minute and then Al Khattal firing in the 37th with a strike from close range.
That wasn’t enough, however, to put Manama through.
