Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport enjoyed a fantastic opening-weekend yesterday in the 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship, held in wet/dry conditions at Oulton Park in the UK.
The tandem of Jonny Adam and James Cottingham powered to an impressive victory in the season’s first race behind the wheel of their #4 MercedesAMG GT3 challenger.
Then, 2 Seas’ other pairing of Ian Loggie and Jules Guonon in their #1 car triumphed in race two to complete a fantastic double for the title-contending outfit, co-owned by Bahrain’s His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In their race one victory yesterday, Adam triumphed on his 100th appearance in the series while Cottingham scored his maiden victory.
After starting from pole position, all eyes were on the GT3 class leaders, who on the final lap staved off a thrilling challenge from their closest competitors from Beechdean Motorsport.
Adam and Cottingham eventually won in one hour one minute 36.116 seconds, just 0.455 seconds ahead of Beechdean’s Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn.
Loggie and Guonon narrowly missed out on a podium place and were fourth, just 1.393s behind their triumphant teammates.
In race two, it was the turn of Loggie and Guonon to spearhead the pack, starting from the leading grid position and then taking the chequered flag by a big margin.
A wet start and intermittent rain throughout the hour made for tricky conditions, but 2 Seas underlined their world-class status and won in 1:00:06.501.
They finished 32.209s ahead of their closest challengers from RAM Racing, while Adam and Cottingham, like their teammates in the first race, came one position shy of the top three in fourth. They crossed the finish line 34.785s behind the winners.
To go with their superb season-opening double, 2 Seas also came away with the British GT’s all-new Intelligent Money Team of the Weekend Award.
The 2023 British GT season is set to feature nine races in all, to be held over seven meetings.
Following this weekend’s action, the next events will then take place at Silverstone on May 6 and 7, Donington Park on May 27 and 28, Snetterton on June 17 and 18, Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal on July 22 and 23, Brands Hatch on September 9 and 10, and then Donington Park again for the season-finale on October 21 and 22.
Snetterton will be the other meeting featuring two races, while Algarve will mark the only race taking place outside of the UK.
