As the spirit of the holy month dominates every corner of Bahrain, each demographic celebrates it in its own unique way.
This season in particular places great emphasis on communal bonds and spending time with friends and family.
Young people have been spending their nights in sports courts to stay active, socialize with others, and burn off some of the calories consumed during iftar.
One of the most popular sports played during Ramadan is football.
In many neighbourhoods, locals either gather in parks or rent open spaces to play a friendly game of football after breaking their fast in the evening.
Basketball is another sport that is enjoyed by many.
It is often played after Iftar in local courts or community centres.
Padel also attracted a lot of devoted sports fans last year and now has several dedicated courts where people can meet and play with other enthusiasts.
Despite the existence of parks, many prefer renting sports courts due to the flexibility it provides rather than having to rely on public facilities.
This can be particularly helpful for those with busy schedules or those who prefer to play at odd hours.
Another reason why renting is favoured is that many think of it as a great way to try out new sports or improve one’s skills in a private and comfortable setting without committing to a long-term membership or investment.
Yasser Abdulaziz, the founder of the Malaeb app, told The Daily Tribune that Ramadan is usually the peak season for recreational sports tournaments in Bahrain, with tournaments organized by different courts and organizations.
