BIC to host Six Hours of Bahrain
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is all set to host this weekends 2015 FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain in Sakhir as international teams and top-class drivers participating have begun arriving in the Kingdom, while preparations across BIC have stepped up and are running around the clock.
Taking place over next Friday and Saturday, the Six Hours of Bahrain marks the eighth and final round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Action gets underway on Thursday but doors will only be open to the public on Friday and Saturday. Aside from the WEC, there is also a support programme made up of the GP2 Series, GP3 Series, Bahrain-bred Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and the India-based MRF Challenge.
Teams are already busy off the track and have been setting up their team homes and respective garages at the track, while tomorrow their cars will be going through scrutineering and sporting checks.
Thursday’s racing features two free practice sessions of the WEC and on Friday a third free practice is at 11am with qualifying at 5pm, with the main event on Saturday flagging off in the daylight at 3pm and ending under the stars at 9pm at. It is one of only a few day-to-night races in the WEC, offering fans a brilliant spectacle of racing as the sun sets as well as under BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlighting system and features a massive grid of 32 cars competing in the WEC season finale.
Spectators can watch the Le Mans style racing from the Main Grandstand which overlooks the start and finish line, the main pit lane and the main straight and also enjoy an Open Paddock experience throughout the entire weekend.
At the Open Paddock fans can experience what goes on behind-the scenes in the WEC paddock, where they will likely get a chance to meet one or more of the championship’s star drivers. Tickets available at BD10 for the weekend, while those aged 15 years and under are admitted free and are available at the BIC stand in Bahrain City Centre.
