Karting star to fly Bahrain flag in 2023 FIA Karting Academy Trophy

Bahrain-based karting sensation Gracie Grantham will be flying the Kingdom’s flag in the 2023 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, one of the most prestigious karting championships in the world for youngsters aiming to climb the international motorsport ladder.
Gracie, aged 13, is one of 47 drivers representing 46 nations set to hit the track in the three-round series.
The FIA Karting Academy Trophy has been an important stepping stone to higher levels of racing for some of the biggest stars now competing at the biggest stage, including Formula 1.
Among those to have raced in the series are Ferrari superstar Charles Leclerc, Mercedes ace George Russell and Alpine driver Esteban Ocon, to name a few.
Gracie is the lone participant from Bahrain.
She was selected by the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) and will be one of five girls i n the FIA Karting Academy Trophy’s 2023 edition.
Speaking of the opportunity, the St Christopher’s School student commented: “It’s a wonder ful honour to be selected to compete in this year’s FIA Karting Academy Trophy.
“While it is a dream come true, I understand that this is just the first big step for me as I hope to continue to progress in my racing career.
I am determined to perform to the best of my abilities and represent the Kingdom of Bahrain in the best way.
“I am working hard every day to be best prepared for the three rounds that are going to be held.
It’s going to be a great challenge going up against some very talented racers, but it is a challenge that I welcome and one that I will take many lessons from.
At the same time, I’m looking to enjoy the experience and really showcase what we are all about in Bahrain motorsport.
“I’d like to express my deepest thanks to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his continuous and unwavering support throughout my motorsport journey.
“I’d also like to thank the BMF for their trust and for this wonderful opportunity I have to compete at the highest level of karting.
“A big thanks as well to my team Praga Middle East, my coach Mohammed Mattar for sharing his experience and expertise, my mechanic Abbas Sarhan for always providing a winning setup, and my manager Khalid Alsaie for constantly pushing me to bigger goals and inspiring me to go after my dreams.
“I always offer a very special thank you to my friends and family, especially my loving grandmother Mandy Green, who is my number one fan and who is always with me at every training session and race.
“I hope to make them all proud and I look forward to racing!”
The 2023 FIA Karting Academy Trophy will visit three European countries over the next three months for plenty of exciting action.
Round one will be held from May 18 to 21 in Trinec, Czech Republic, to be followed by round two from June 15 to 18 in Rodby, Denmark.
The third and final round will then take place from July 27 to 30 in Cremona, Italy.
Gracie is one of the most talented homegrown karters in Bahrain.
She has many achievements in her young career, and most recently finished as the vice-champion of the Junior MAX category in the highly competitive Bahrain Rotax MAX Challenge—the Kingdom’s premier national karting championship.
