Bahraini elite athlete Winfred Yavi finished a solid fourth in the women’s 1,500 metres run at the Kip Keino Classic, held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Winfred, who earlier this month set the world lead en route to a fine victory in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the Doha Diamond League, completed the race in four minutes 06.34 seconds.

Janat Chemusto of Uganda clinched the victory in 4:01.79, while Nelly Chepchirchir of Kenya followed as the runner-up in 4:04.56.

Hawi Abera of Ethiopia finished marginally ahead of Winfred in 4:06.15. Winfred’s finishing time was just short of her personal best in the distance of 4:05.54, which she set in the same meeting last year.

It was the second international outdoor race for Winfred this season as she prepares for a busy summer, being one of Bahrain’s top hopefuls for a medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest this August and the Hangzhou Asian Games in China in September and October.

Winfred was the only Bahraini athlete competing in this year’s Kip Keino Classic, which was a Gold-level meet on the World Athletics Continental Tour.
