Bahrain’s Manama Club had to settle for the silver medals last night in the Gulf sub-zone of the 2022/2023 FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL).

Manama lost to Kuwait SC 85- 95 in game two of their bestof-three championship series, thus sealing their opponents’ two-game sweep.

The Kuwaitis had earlier won game one 87-78 last week in Kuwait City, and managed to close out the match-up yesterday at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.

Manama headed into the final quarter down by just one, 63-64, but were then outscored 22-31 to close out the game.

Travin Thibodeaux was Manama’s top scorer with 21 points, while Ahmed Salman added 17 and Lamont Jones and Hasan Nowrooz 11 points apiece.

Marcus Anthony Georges-Hunt poured in 35 points as the game’s star man.

Cody Lalanne added 18 in their title-clinching victory. With the result, the Kuwaitis finished the competition with an undefeated record. Despite the loss, Manama join Kuwait and Shabab Al Ahli of Dubai as Gulf zone representatives in the WASL Final 8, where they will be joined by the West Asia sub-zone top three along with champions of South Asia and Central Asia.

The WASL Final 8 will qualify for FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2023, on the road to FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2023, FIBA’s highest club competition.
