Manama is set to get a boost of excitement as the Filipino American Association of Bahrain hosts the 2023 Olympics on 26 May at Al Najma Juffair Sports Club.

Members of Filipino-Americans residing in Bahrain are expected to attend the sports competition in which actual program will starts at 8am and is assured to be an action-packed affair.

In an interview with Fil-Am Bahrain Sports Commissioner Alain Buensuceso, he explained that the 2023 Fil Am Olympics is an exciting event emerging from a challenging period when the coronavirus pandemic forced most sports events to be suspended.

“This is a jumpstart as sports plays an important role in everyone’s busy life. We must take some time out for outdoor games. It keeps an individual physically and mentally healthy, and it will inspire the community to engage in and experience traditional games as well as to form new friendships,” Buensuceso said.

Participants will be grouped into four teams to compete in games such as tug of war, volleyball, sack race, tri-wheel heavy bike race, ball in between belly relay race and sit-on rug relay race among others.

Aside from the game competitions, there will be a cheerleading contest and the best muse will be chosen. Raffle draws offer grand prizes including a 65-inch coloured Samsung television.

“Sports is part of our heritage. It will serve as an opportunity to strengthen the bond among members and bring out our competitive spirit as well as promote camaraderie,’’ said Reigna Gumiran, Deputy Sports Commissioner of Fil Am Bahrain.

According to Madeline Despi, member of Sports Committee, a kids’ corner will be put up during the sports event. Embassy officials from the Philippines and the US, including commanding officers of US Navy are expected to grace the event. For more information please contact Gumiran at 39964364.
