Bahraini cyclists put in solid ride at Asian road race

Bahrain’s cyclists had solid results in the elite men’s individual road race at the 2023 Asian Road Cycling Championships, which came to a close in Rayong, Thailand.

Competing with four riders in the fray, the Bahrainis were classified in the middle of the pack from around 90 competitors battling it out over 156 kilometres.

Ahmed Naser was the Bahrainis’ best finisher, claiming 32nd overall in three hours 25 minutes 19 seconds.

Teammate Ahmed Madan followed in 46th with a time of 3:26:55, while Bahrain’s Husain Mohamed was 68th in 3:35:38.

Veteran Bahraini rider Mansoor Jawad could not complete the distance and was thus not classified. Gleb Brussenskiy led a Kazakh one-two on the podium, taking gold in 3:23:13.

He was followed by countryman Yevgeniy Gidich who was not far behind in 3:23:20, while Yukiya Arashiro of Japan came third in 3:23:26.

Abdulla Alhammadi of the UAE was the leading Arab rider, finishing in 18th place with a time of 3:24:32.

The elite men’s individual road race was the second event Bahrain’s cyclists competed in at Rayong.

Earlier, Madan finished in the top 10 in the elite men’s individual time trial.

He was ninth overall amongst 19 participants, covering a distance of 46 kilometres in 58:34.429.
