Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport put in a strong qualifying performance yesterday ahead of today’s pair of 60-minute sprint races in this weekend’s 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship, being held at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk, the UK.
The pair of James Cottingham and Jonny Adam in 2 Seas’ #4 Mercedes AMG-GT3 Evo challenger set the pace in qualifying for the meeting’s first race, but were demoted to sixth position after the session following a penalty.
Teammates Ian Loggie and Jules Gounon in the #1 car followed in 11th place. Then, in the second qualifying session to determine the race two grid, Loggie and Gounon secured a place in row two, from where they will start in third; while Cottingham and Adam will begin from seventh in row four.
Today’s first race flags off at 1.25pm, Bahrain time, followed by the second at 6.20pm. In yesterday’s first qualifying, Cottingham and Adam set the GT3’s fastest time of one minute 47.017 seconds but dropped to sixth on the grid following the awarding of a third Behavioural Warning Point this season after making contact with a GT4 car during practice.
An appeal made by the team was dismissed by stewards of the meeting soon after qualifying concluded. Barwell Motorsport’s Shaun Balfe and Sandy Mitchell inherited pole. Loggie and Gounon had a best lap of 1:48.432 for 11th in the session’s classification.
Then, in the second qualifying, Loggie and Gounon had a fastest time of 1:45.049, just 0.256 seconds off the pace of pole-sitters Alex West and Marvin Kirchhoefer of Garage 59. Cottingham and Adam qualified seventh with a best lap of 1:45.454.
2 Seas, co-owned by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, head into today’s races as leaders in the GT3 Teams Championship battle, while Cottingham and Adam are in first place in both the GT3 Drivers Championship and GT3 Pro-Am standings.
2 Seas are looking to continue their fine form this weekend, having won three of the four races held so far in the British GT season.
