Bahrain’s leading men’s national cycling team riders are set to step up their preparations to fly the Kingdom’s flag in the upcoming 15th Arab Games, taking place in Algeria next month.

In a meeting with a trio of the team’s members, Bahrain Cycling Association (BCA) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa encouraged the riders to put in their maximum efforts in preparing for the Games in order to represent the Kingdom in the best way.

Shaikh Khalid said this as he received top cyclists Mansoor Jawad, Hussain Mohammed and Ahmed Naser following their participation in the 2023 Asian Road Cycling Championships earlier this week in Rayong, Thailand.

The riders, along with teammate Ahmed Madan, are among the Bahraini athletes who will be going for gold at the Arab Games, which are scheduled to take place July 5 to 15. The meeting was also attended by BCA officials Yousef Jawad, Ahmed Al Buainain and Shubar Al Wadaei.

Bahrain will be participating in nine sports at the upcoming Arab Games. Aside from cycling, the Kingdom will also be fielding its leading sportsmen and women in athletics, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, sailing, swimming, wheelchair basketball and athletics for people of determination.

The Games will be held under the theme “With sports we progress and compete, in Algeria we meet”, according to reports, and it will feature around 6,000 athletes from various Arab countries. There are 23 sports in all at the Games, including three for people of determination, across 245 events. In the multi-sport event’s last edition in 2011 in Doha, Bahrain captured 38 medals, including 12 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze.
