Filipino-American group holds 2023 ‘Olympic Games’

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Filipino American Association of Bahrain once again took on the challenge of hosting this year’s Filipino American Olympic Games Vel Figueras Cup at Al Najma Sports Centre on June 23.
The annual sports tradition that started when the organisation was formed showcased a spectacular ceremony, a colourful parade of athletes, and energetic performances by participants.
Speaking to more than 200 members of the organisation from all over Bahrain, Orlando Fontanilla Jr., president of Fil Am Bahrain, warmly welcomed everyone who attended and supported the event. Fontanilla said: "Fil Am Olympics is an annual event that is geared towards fostering camaraderie among the Filipino-American community in Bahrain to develop appreciation for healthy competition and sportsmanship.’’
The United States of America (USA) Embassy Charge de Affaires Bahrain, Mr. David Brownstein, who graced the affair, extended his congratulations and gratefulness to the Fil Am Bahrain as he described the event as "amazing’’.
In her speech on the occasion, Her Excellency Anne Jalando-on Louis gave an inspirational talk and commended Fil-Am Bahrain for this year’s organisational goal of advancing solidarity, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
