Bahrain bowlers put in strong performances

Bahrainis Rashid Al Daihan and Ahmed Al Ansari had strong performances in their singles events at the 21st Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships, currently being held in Bangkok.

Al Daihan placed 21st while Al Ansari was 29th amongst the 44 bowlers who took to the lanes in the competition’s first two squads. Bahrain’s Aqeel Al Awadhi and Zeyad Al Awadhi will be in action today in squad number three.

Al Daihan posted a 1,138 total for a 189.67 average over his six games yesterday. His best outing was 211, while he scored 172, 172, 205, 196 and 182 in his other games. Al Ansari registered a 1,084 total and a 180.67 average. His series high was 210, while his other games were 194, 161, 179, 166 and 174.

Vilinkorn Kiedkaew of Thailand was the leader from the two squads with a 1,329 total and 221.50 average. Blake Walsh of Australia followed on 1,300 and 216.67, while Korea’s Lee Myeongcheol followed in third on 1,282 and 213.67 marks.

Along with the third squad for singles, the boys’ doubles first squad will also be in action today. The competition, organised and run by the Asian Bowling Federation, is for bowlers born on or after January 1, 2003.

Bahrain’s quartet are among 158 bowlers, both boys and girls, representing 17 countries taking part in the tournament. The other national teams taking part are Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Chinese-Taipei, Thailand and Vietnam.
