Three Bahrain players were among the eight winners of individual awards at the fourth AVC Men Challenger, which came to a close in Chinese Taipei on Saturday.

National team stars Mohammed Yaqoob, Ali Ebrahim, and Ayman Haroona each came with a personal trophy for their fine performances in the tournament, where the Bahrainis finished as silver medalists. Yaqoob took home the Best Outside Hitter award, while Ebrahim was named the Best Opposite Spiker.

Haroona was honoured as the tournament’s Best Libero. Among the other individual awardees, Thailand’s Anurak Phanram was named Most Valuable Player, while countrymen Anut Promchan and Kissada Nilsawai came away with the Best Outside Hitter and Best Middle Blocker awards.

Korea’s Kim Minjae was also named the Best Middle Blocker, while Hwang Taekeui, also of Korea, was selected as the Best Setter. By playing in the gold medal game, Bahrain made national sporting history after qualifying for their first-ever championship decider at the senior men’s level in any Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) tournament. It was thus their maiden silver medal in a continental competition for senior men.

The Bahrainis also assured a better finish than their bronze-medal win in the 2022 AVC Cup for Men, held in Thailand. Following their campaign in Chinese Taipei, Bahrain now shifts their focus to the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship from August 18 to 26 in Tehran.
