Bahrain swimmers to take part in world championships

Bahrain’s national swimming team departed for Japan yesterday to compete in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. The event, scheduled to be held until 30 July, is taking place in the city of Fukuoka.

The Kingdom’s delegation is headed by Bahrain Swimming Association (BSA) board member Dr Ammar Mustafa Alsayed and it includes coach Aliaksandr Karpaliou.

The Bahraini team competing at the worlds includes Ayah Bin Rajab, Asma Lilian, Abdulla Khalid Jamal and Ali Sadeq Al Alawi. Ayah and Asma have been training twice a day under the supervision of coach Karpaliou and the BSA’s technical staff.

Jamal and Al Alawi will be joining the team in Fukuoka from the US, where they are currently studying and training as student-athletes. This year’s worlds mark the 20th edition of the event.

There are 195 nations participating with nearly 2,500 athletes. Aside from swimming, there is also competition in artistic swimming, diving, high diving, open water swimming and water polo. The worlds got underway on 14 July, but the swimming events only begin on 23 July.
