Bahrain’s Muharraq Club will be taking part in the second season of the FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL). This has been confirmed by Muharraq and the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA).

There will thus be two Bahraini teams in the tournament, with Muharraq joining Manama, who just last month became the first-ever FIBA WASL champions. The competition is currently scheduled for a 16 October tip-off date.

Muharraq and Manama will be among 16 teams set to compete, with the best eight making it to the final stage. The competition format will remain the same from the inaugural campaign, with the three best teams at the end of the WASL Gulf Sub-Zone and the WASL West Asia Sub-Zone leagues earning their tickets to the Final Eight.

Joining the six will be the champion teams from South Asia and Central Asia, and they will all vie for the right to become cage kings of the region. The draw for the preliminary round is scheduled for 4 August, with the location still to be confirmed. Manama won the inaugural title after beating Kuwait Club 67-59 in a thrilling final held in Dubai in June
