Team Bahrain Victorious rider Matej Mohoric stepped onto the podium yesterday in stage three of the Tour de Pologne 2023 in Poland.
A day after taking an impressive victory in stage two, Mohoric maintained his strong pace to finish as runner-up in the 163.3-kilometre third leg. He was narrowly beaten to the win by Rafal Majka of UAE Team Emirates.
Michal Kwiatkowski of Ineos Grenadiers finished third. Amongst the other Bahrain Victorious riders, Damiano Caruso came 46th, Antonio Tiberi was 70th, Kamil Gradek finished 127th, Fran Miholjevic was 136th, Matevz Govekar came 141st, and Andrea Pasqualon finished 147th.
With yesterday’s result, Mohoric retained the overall leader’s yellow jersey as he stayed in first place on the general classification (GC) after three stages, marginally ahead of Majka.
Mohoric commented: “I think I had the legs to win today but I hesitated too much from the corner 200 metres to go.
I thought I might still have a chance in the sprint and I moved to the left, but of course they closed the door, which is normal, so I couldn’t really sprint for the win. It’s a pity.” The seven-stage race continues today with the fourth leg, to be held over 198km.
