Table tennis team win 16 medals in Arab championship

Bahrain’s national table tennis team came away with a remarkable 16 medals, including five gold, at the recently concluded Arab Table Tennis Championship held in Iraq. Aside from the gold, the Bahrainis also clinched four silver and seven bronze medals. The gold medals were claimed in the men’s doubles, girls’ doubles, mixed doubles, boys’ under-11 singles and girls’ teams.

Rashed Sanad and Elias Al Yasi were triumphant in the men’s doubles while Maryam Al A’ali and Phadke Amruta were winners in the girls’ doubles. Sanad and Maryam then teamed up to claim the mixed doubles gold, while Sayed Nasser Alawi was the champion in the boys’ under-11 singles.

The victorious girls’ team consists of Maryam Al A’ali, Fatima Al A’ali, Phadke Amruta and Rayan Rashed. Bahrain Table Tennis Association vice-president and delegation head at the competition Ali Al Madeh congratulated the team’s players and praised them for their efforts. The squad is scheduled to return to the Kingdom today from Iraq
