HH Shaikh Khalid receives Arab Games, Special Olympics medallists

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy president, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa received yesterday Bahraini athletes who captured medals at the recently concluded 15th Arab Games in Algeria and the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.

The reception was attended by BOC vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain Paralympic Committee president Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji and a number of sports federation heads.

HH Shaikh Khalid praised the achievements of the athletes at the Arab Games, which led to a historic result of 44 medals, including 20 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze. HH Shaikh Khalid also highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Bahraini athletes at the Special Olympics World Games, where they came away with 11 medals, including six gold, two silver and three bronze.

HH Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the two successful competitions reflect the development of Bahrain sports under the care and attention of His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the attention of his Majesty’s Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs representative and SCYS president His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

At the end of the reception, Al Kooheji presented HH Shaikh Khalid with a commemorative plaque of the champions of both events.
