Faqeehi bags silver in Asian Games esports event

Bahrain’s esports star Abdulaziz Abdullatif Faqeehi clinched the silver medal in the West Asia tournament of the AESF Road to Asian Games FIFA Online 4.

Faqeehi’s teammate Rashed Khaled Al Ruwaihi also put in a strong performance in the event, held in Seoul, South Korea, and organised by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation.

The competition acted as a qualifier for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games in China. Based on the teams’ performance, it would determine their seeding for the Asiad. Teams are split into groups based on their home region.

Ahmad Mujahid of Saudi Arabia was the West Asia gold-medallist, while Fahad Abdulrahman Al Hasani of Oman. Aside from winning silver, Faqeehi was also the highest goal scorer with 13 goals in seven games.

Bahrain Esports Federation (BESF) president Hussain Al Kooheji expressed pride in the achievements of the players in various Esports, which are continuously supported by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS); and followed up by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of SCYS, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President.

Al Kooheji praised the Bahraini Esports team, particularly Faqeehi and Al Ruwaihi along with coach Mohammad Khaled Al Ruwaihi, for their contribution to Bahrain and the BESF’s success in the international arena.
