Audi team top the times in WEC second practice

Audi Sport Team shone brightest under the stars at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) this evening as they powered to the top two positions on the practice two timesheet in the FIA WEC Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain.

Benoit Treluyer secured the number one spot in his R18 e-tron Quattro, registering a fastest lap of one minute 42.133 seconds. He was followed by teammate Lucas di Grassi in the Audi Hybrid, who had to settle for second in the final classification with a best lap just 1.158 seconds off the pacesetter. Treluyer shared the duties in his challenger with teammates Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer, while di Grassi was joined by Loic Duval and Oliver Jarvis.

The Audi squad finished strong on a positive day, as they had earlier ranked second and third in the first WEC practice.

Classified behind them at the end of the floodlit evening session in Sakhir, were the pair of Porsche Team 919 Hybrids of Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard (+1.227), in third with the Porsche of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb followed in fourth place (+1.396).

In the LMP2 class, G-Drive Racing’s Ricardo Gonzalez, Gustavo Yacaman and Luis Felipe Derani steered their Ligier JS P2 – Nissan to first place. They had a best lap of 1:50.029.

Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander maintained their hold on first place in the Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance Pro (LMGTE Pro) category. Their Ferrari F458 Italia put the AF Corse duo on top with a lap of 1:59.402. The LMGTE Am class was topped by the SMP Racing team of Andrea Bertolini, Victor Shaytar and Aleksey Basov. Also behind the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia, they had a best lap of 2:00.866.
