U19 spikers win second straight

Bahrain’s youth national volleyball team secured their second successive straight-sets victory last night in the first West Asia Men’s U19 Volleyball Championship 2023, currently being held in Jeddah.

The nationals maintained their undefeated record to start the competition with a comfortable 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) win over the UAE.

Yesterday’s result followed their 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25- 16) triumph the previous day against Kuwait. The nationals are now hoping to complete a clean sweep of Group A in the preliminary round when they take on Syria tonight at 8pm, Bahrain time.

The Syrians were 0-3 (14-25, 14-25, 20-25) losers yesterday to the Kuwaitis in the other divisional fixture. Meanwhile, in Group B, Lebanon beat Qatar 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) and hosts Saudi Arabia overcame Jordan 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20).

At the end of the opening stage, the top two from each group will move on to the semi-finals.

Bahrain, coached in the tournament by Tunisian Saber Abdulwahed, are competing in the tournament with a squad of Abbas Ehsan, Hassan Al Warqa, Hussain Issa, Mohammed Redha, Mahdi Hussain, Hussain Ali Radhi, Yasser Haji, Mohammed Hassan Nasser, Hussain Ismail, Ali Hussain Issa, Abdulla Al Haiki and Mohammed Al Khabbaz.
