The crème de la crème of the mixed martial arts world is celebrating Jose “Shorty” Torres after his BRAVE CF Bantamweight title win this past weekend.

The American endured a gruelling twenty-five minutes to edge out South Africa’s Nkosi “The Future” Ndebele during their BRAVE CF 73 vacant 135-pound title fight that took place in Bogota, Colombia, in the highlight event of the Pan-American Combat Week.

Torres was mentioned by various well-known figures on social media this past week, including superstar coaches John Kavanagh, Eric Nicksick, and Welterweight elite Stephen “WonderBoy” Thompson.

KHK Team Bahrain’s Torres did well to implement a grappling game to counter the high-level striking and takedown defense of the former IMMAF African amateur champion to grind out a split decision (49-45, 48-47, 49-47) win on the night and earn his first global MMA title.

The bout was an intense battle of chess and could have gone either way - with that said, both athletes have agreed to a rematch, a match that Kavanagh believes will end the same way.

Torres posted a pic of himself holding the golden BRAVE CF Bantamweight title with a caption stating: “AND NEW! #NeverGiveUp #KeepPushing #MentalHealth #YouCanDoIt #BraveCF We Can, We Will, Together, We Are, #TeamShorty”.

His post was aimed to motivate others as Torres had recently battled with mental issues, especially after the passing of his father. Ireland and SBG’s Kavanagh retweeted “Shorty’s” post, celebrating the Chicago-based athlete.

“Congratulations to ShortyTorresMMA on a great win, looking forward to the rematch and the same outcome,” said Kavanagh, who is also linked to Torres via KHK Team Bahrain as the world-renowned coach has often worked with the Bahrain-based gym.

A dejected Ndebele has asked for an immediate rematch and confirmed to the BRAVE CF matchmakers that he is ready to go.
