Bahrain’s youth national volleyball team barged into the semi-finals of the inaugural West Asia Men’s U19 Volleyball Championship 2023, currently being held in Jeddah.

The nationals secured their berth following a 3-0 (25-17, 25- 10, 25-19) shutout of Qatar in their round-of-eight fixture last night.

The result maintained the Bahrainis’ undefeated record in the competition, after they had swept their three games in the group stage en route to the quarters.

Bahrain now move on to the final four, where they will take on Kuwait. In other quarter-final results yesterday, hosts Saudi Arabia defeated Syria 3-0 (25- 15, 25-18, 25-11); Lebanon ousted the UAE 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-21); and the Kuwaitis outplayed Jordan 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).

The Bahrainis’ final four clash today is a re-match of their preliminary round win against Kuwait, who they beat 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-16).

Bahrain, coached in the tournament by Tunisian Saber Abdulwahed, are competing in the championship with a squad of Abbas Ehsan, Hassan Al Warqa, Hussain Issa, Mohammed Redha, Mahdi Hussain, Hussain Ali Radhi, Yasser Haji, Mohammed Hassan Nasser, Hussain Ismail, Ali Hussain, Abdulla Al Haiki and Mohammed Al Khabbaz.
