Bahrain’s youth national volleyball team wrapped up their perfect campaign in the inaugural West Asia Men’s U19 Volleyball Championship 2023 yesterday, capturing the gold medals in spectacular fashion and ending the tournament in Jeddah with an unbeaten record while conceding zero sets throughout.

The Bahrainis secured the coveted title with a resounding 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) triumph against hosts Saudi Arabia in the final. The nationals were the aggressors from the beginning and gave their rivals little chance to get into the contest and gain any momentum.

With the result, the Bahrainis wrapped up their tournament campaign with six wins in six matches, all of which they won in straight sets. They opened the competition with a three-game sweep of their preliminary round group, and then ousted Qatar in the quarter-finals and Kuwait in the last four.

Bahrain, coached by Tunisian Saber Abdulwahed, won the championship with a squad of Abbas Ehsan, Hassan Al Warqa, Hussain Issa, Mohammed Redha, Mahdi Hussain, Hussain Ali Radhi, Yasser Haji, Mohammed Hassan Nasser, Hussain Ismail, Ali Hussain, Abdulla Al Haiki and Mohammed Al Khabbaz.

Meanwhile, Kuwait claimed the bronze medals following a 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18) win over Lebanon. Jordan took fifth place after beating the UAE 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-20). Qatar finished seventh after outplaying Syria 3-1 (25-27, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23).
