Bahrain all set for 3x3 Manama Masters

Bahrain is all set for its first-ever event on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, which is scheduled to take place November 16 and 17. Entitled the “FIBA 3x3 Manama Masters”, the hugely popular basketball competition will be held at Bahrain Financial Harbour under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) president and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The inauguration ceremony for the event took place last night attended by HH Shaikh Khalid, GSA vice-president His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and BOC vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who is also chairman of the organising committee.

Also on hand were Minister of Education Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, FIBA 3x3 Commission member Radu Petre, and a number of other officials.

Details of the event were announced yesterday, along with the unveiling of the competition’s mascot.

On this occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid expressed his great pleasure in Bahrain’s hosting the FIBA 3x3 World Tour for the first time, with the cooperation of the BOC, the Bahrain Basketball Association and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

HH Shaikh Khalid said it is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to organise various international sporting events that strengthen Bahrain’s position on the global map.

HH Shaikh Khalid added that the FIBA 3x3 World Tour event in Bahrain is a great opportunity for those who follow the game to see the world’s top 3x3 basketball stars in action.

HH Shaikh Isa and Petre also gave speeches during last night’s inauguration.

This year’s inaugural event will be the first for the next three years for Bahrain on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. Bahrain’s hosting of the event had come to fruition following the efforts of HH Shaikh Isa through his communication and prominent relations with FIBA.

In September of last year, the BOC signed its agreement with FIBA to host the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

HH Shaikh Isa penned the agreement with Ignacio Soriano, FIBA’s Events and Partnership 3x3 president.

The FIBA 3x3 World Tour is an international tour of men’s 3x3 basketball teams representing cities. It holds events all over the world throughout the calendar year.

Bahrain is the series’ third destination in the GCC, joining Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Aside from the 3x3 basketball, events also stage dunk contests and shooting competitions.
