Bahrain’s women’s national futsal team went down to heavily favoured Japan 1-9 yesterday in their semi-final clash at the NSDF Women’s Futsal Championship 2023, currently being held in Bangkok.

The Bahrainis conceded four goals in the first half and five over the concluding 20 minutes. Hessa Al Isa fired in their lone consolation in the second half with the nationals already facing a five-goal deficit.

She hit a brilliant rocket in the 26th minute of the game from near the half-court line. Her effort was so powerful that Japan’s number two goalkeeper Suto Yuria could not make a stop. With the result, the Bahrainis will now play for the bronze medals against China.

The Chinese lost to hosts Thailand 0-2 in yesterday’s other final four encounter. Bahrain, coached by Lino Gomes from Brazil, are competing in the tournament with a 14-player squad.

Aside from Hessa, the other players are skipper Yasmeen Fayez, Manar Ebrahim, Shaikha Al Anood Al Khalifa, Rose Fayez, Amira Bader, Fatima Hamad, Dalal Abdulla, Zahra Nezar, Kholoud Saleh, Lilia Javed Sabkar, Maryam Abdulla, Iman Ramadan and Rawan Al Ali.
