Bahrain national team cyclist Ahmed Naser, competing for Victorious Cycling Team, powered to an impressive victory in yesterday’s second stage of the Tour of Salalah 2023 in Oman.

Naser completed the 148-kilometre leg in first place for the first win and podium of any Bahraini rider in this year’s event.

After all day on the breakaway, he managed to attack on the last climb and reach the finish line alone.

Naser won yesterday ahead of Slovenia’s Grega Bole of Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Team, while Abdulla Jasim Al Ali from the UAE clinched the final podium place.

The stage started at the town of Sadah and ended in Hajeef.

“After all races and training camps in Spain, Naser has taken steps forward and today is a good proof of it,” said Bahrain Cycling Association sport director Axel Costa.

“We are very happy and this victory will give him more confidence for his future.”

Bahrain have two squads competing in the four-stage race, representing both Victorious and the Bahrain Cycling Academy.

This year’s Tour of Salalah features four stages, concluding tomorrow.

It is an elite men’s road race part of the International Cycling Union (UCI) calendar.

Today’s third leg will be held over 104km from Al Haffa to Darbat.
