Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport have been lauded for their outstanding efforts in helping clinch their first-ever GT3 Teams title in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.
2 Seas co-owner His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised his crew following their double top-four finish in the 2023 season’s eighth and penultimate round, held this past weekend at Brands Hatch circuit in the UK.
That was enough for 2 Seas to secure the GT3 Teams Championship with an event to spare, while also keeping their drivers James Cottingham and Jonny Adam, who share the duties in their #4 Mercedes AMG-GT3 Evo contender, in the lead to clinch the GT3 Drivers title.
“I am so proud of the whole 2 Seas Motorsport team,” HH Shaikh Isa said. “
The results this season have been a real team effort, and to recover from the back of the field on lap one and a 20-second success penalty to finish P3 and P4 reinforces what a great team effort it was, and it was a great way to secure our first championship title.”
Cottingham and Adam started Sunday’s race on pole and managed to claim a fine podium appearance in third after serving the maximum 20s Compensation Time penalty.
Meanwhile, teammates Ian Loggie and James Gounon in the #1 Mercedes AMG-GT3 car were classified right behind them in fourth overall.
They had a brilliant recovery drive after an opening-lap incident that caused a spin and left them at the back of the 32-car field.
With both results, 2 Seas improved to 281.5 points on the GT3 Teams Championship standings after eight rounds, well out of the reach of Century Motorsport, who are second with 149 points. Barwell Motorsport are third on 138.5 points.
“Ian was really unlucky at the very start, and that could have been the end of his day, but it just goes to show what a fighter he is,” HH Shaikh Isa commented.
“He not only recovered back into the top 10 during his stint, but just focused on the job in hand to give Jules a fighting chance.
“Jules then highlighted why he is one of the best in the world right now, fighting for every inch to keep the championship alive.
“After his standout qualifying run, James put in a stellar shift, with one of his best drives in a GT3 car.
He and Jonny were really unlucky with the Safety Car calls, but a massive effort to overcome the success penalty and take another podium. All eyes are now on Donington to see if we can deliver one final time.”
Cottingham and Adam are still in the drivers’ seat as the battle for the GT3 Drivers Championship has been extended to the season-finale.
Following their Brands Hatch podium, they improved to 162 points apiece but are just 13 points ahead of Century’s Darren Leung and Dan Harper, who claimed the win on Sunday.
Loggie is in solo third place on the drivers’ points rankings with 119.5 points and is out of the running for the title.
The final round is scheduled to take place at Donington Park in the UK on 21 and 22 October.
