Schmidt caps a perfect start in Porsche GT3

AE’s Jeffrey Schmidt of Al Nabooda Racing capped a perfect start to the 2015/2016 season winning the second race of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East yesterday as a support race for the 2015 FIA WEC Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Schmidt’s finished the 12 laps in 26 minutes 23.450 seconds ahead of Ireland’s Ryan Cullen of Cullen Motorsport (+4.513 seconds) behind in second place with former champion from Kuwait and Al Nabooda Racing driver Zaid Ashkanani (+4.600) making it two drivers for Al Nabooda on the podium.

All three podium drivers were in the Gold class.

In the Silver category, Wolfgang Triller of TriSpa Racing (26:31.146 finished in first place ahead of Prince Saud Al Faisal of Al Faisal Racing with Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa having an impressive drive, finishing third in the class for Team Bahrain. 

Magnus Ohman of Mtech won the Bronze category and was followed by Rob Frijns and Team Bahrain ace Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa.

Other overall top eight finishers were Hasher Al Mktoum (UAE, Sky Dive Falcons Porsche, +6.025 147) in fourth, Saeed Al Mehairi (UAE, Sky Dive Dubai Falcons, +6.101 147) in fifth, Charlie Frijns (Ned, Frijns Structural Steel, +6.386) sixth and Abdulaziz Al Faisal (Ksa, Al Faisal Racing, +7.155) seventh.

The next round of races is at Reem International, Saudi next month, followed in January by the third round at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi and then back-to-back fourth and fifth rounds at Dubai Autodrome in late January and February, concluding with the sixth and final round back at Bahrain International Circuit in March.
