Bahrain set for U16 Asian basketball

Bahrain’s youth national basketball team get their campaign underway tomorrow in the FIBA Asia U16 Championship 2023 in Doha. Bahrain is one of 16 nations taking part in the continental event.
They are in Group C for the competition’s preliminary round along with New Zealand, South Korea and Jordan.
The nationals returned to the Kingdom yesterday from an overseas training camp in Istanbul and today will depart for the Qatari capital to compete in the championship.
Group A features Australia, India, Lebanon and Sri Lanka; Group B comprises Iran, Japan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia; and Group D consists of the Philippines, China, Malaysia and Kazakhstan.
Bahrain open their campaign against Jordan tomorrow at 2.30pm.
They then play South Korea on Monday at the same time, before facing New Zealand on Tuesday at 11.30am. All times are Bahrain.
At the end of the preliminary stage, the top team from each group moves directly to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-ranked squads go to round two.
This year’s event will mark the fifth time Bahrain will be competing in the continent’s under-16 tournament.
They first played in 2009 and then again in 2013, 2015 and 2022. The Bahrainis’ best finish was eighth overall in the 2013 competition held in Tehran.
