Bahrain champions Manama Club signed off from the 33rd FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore yesterday with a 60-80 loss to the NBA G League Ignite from the US.

The defeat placed the Bahrainis in sixth overall to end the six-team competition, which is also known as the FIBA Club World Cup.

Manama marked the debut of any Bahrain team in the tournament. The Bahrainis trailed 10-17 at the end of the first quarter yesterday and were within striking distance, 36-30, at the half.

They continued to stay close in the third period and headed into the final canto down just 47-55. But it was there that the Ignite built their lead, outscoring Manama 25-13 en route to the final whistle.

American import Sir’Dominic Pointer paced the Bahraini squad with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Mustafa Hussain finished with 13 and Latavious Williams had 11, also with 13 boards.

For the Ignite, Babacar Sane and Ron Holland had 22 and 21 points, respectively, while John Jenkins finished with 12.

The result gave Manama their third successive loss in the competition and they finished with a winless record.

They had also suffered defeats to German side Telekom Baskets Bonn and Chinese representatives Zhejiang Golden Bulls.

The other teams participating were Basketball Champions League Americas winners Sesi Franca from Brazil and Basketball Africa League champions Al Ahly from Egypt.
