Muharraq get tough group for Arab clubs basketball

Bahrain’s Muharraq Club have been drawn in a challenging Group A for the 35th Arab Clubs Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, from Sunday to 12 October.
Muharraq are one of 18 teams from all over the region in the competition.
The Bahrainis are in the same group as Qatar Sports Club, Bureij Services of Palestine and defending champions Kuwait Sports Club.
Group B features Al Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt, Union Sportive Medina d’Alger of Algeria, Al Ahly Doha from Qatar and Dynamo Lebanon from Lebanon.
Group C includes Sanaa from Yemen, AS Sale from Morocco, Al Qadsiya from Kuwait and Al Fateh from Saudi Arabia.
Group D comprises Al Ittihad from Libya, Al Ahly of Egypt, Tigris University from Iraq, MTB Majd Tanger from Morocco and Beirut First Club from Lebanon.
The tournament is being held under the auspices of the Arab Basketball Confederation.
Muharraq are scheduled to open their campaign on Monday against Kuwait at 7pm, and then play Bureij two days later at 4pm.
They complete their Group A campaign against Qatar on 6 October at 7pm.
Muharraq have signed Americans Tyler Wilkerson and Julius Coles Jr to help bolster their Bahraini line-up for the competition.
In the previous Arab clubs championship last year, Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club were the Kingdom’s representatives.
They made it to the round of 16, but lost to Tigris University.
Kuwait SC went on to clinch the title with a onepoint victory over Egypt’s Ahly in the final.
