Bahrain narrowly missed out yesterday on securing their first medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The Bahraini tandem of Tammar Alwatt and Maryam Alasam came eight points shy of securing the bronze medals in the skeet mixed team competition in shooting.
Alwatt and Maryam were facing the Qatari duo of Rashid Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani in the first of two bronze medal matches. Alwatt and Alasam finished with a 37 total, while Al Athba and Reem had a 44 score.
The Qataris thus joined gold-medallists Kazakhstan, silver-medallists Kuwait, and fellow-bronze medallists China on the podium. Earlier, in the qualification round, Alwatt and Maryam were ranked fifth with a 141 total to book their place in their bronze medal contest.
Kuwait’s Abdullah Alrashidi and Eman Alshamaa were the top qualifiers, but they then lost to Kazakhstan’s Eduard Yechshenko and Assem Orynbay in the final.
Meanwhile, in table tennis action yesterday, Bahrain’s paddlers lost all seven of their matches in singles and doubles.
