Salem Issa Al Doseri fired in the winner in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time to lift East Riffa to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Manama last night, in a thrilling week three match in the 2023/2024 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Al Doseri scored his stunner from close range after it appeared that the match was headed for a stalemate.
Ebrahim Al Khattal put Manama in front in the 38th minute with a shot from an acute angle.
But Jassim Khlelaif equalised for East Riffa just four minutes into the second-half with a header from inside the box.
With the result, East Riffa maintained their perfect record so far in three matches and they rose to the top of the standings with a maximum nine points.
Manama suffered their second loss to go with one win.
Meanwhile, Busaiteen and Sitra played to a 1-1 draw.
Mamadou Lamine Diawara put Busaiteen ahead with a goal in the fifth minute.
That was enough to give them the lead at the break.
But Sitra were awarded a penalty later on, and Amir Rostai made no mistake with his 66th minute spot kick to tie the game.
For both sides, it was their first points of the new season after opening their campaigns with successive losses.
League action continues tonight with another two matches on schedule.
Muharraq and Riffa are set for a titanic clash between a pair of top title contenders, while defending champions Al Khaldiya go up against Al Ahli.
Both games are scheduled for 7pm kick-offs at separate venues.
