Top contenders Riffa roared back from two goals down to claim a superb 3-2 victory over fellow-title hopefuls Muharraq last night in their titanic week three clash of the 2023/2024 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.

Bahrain national team star Komail Al Aswad was the hero for the victors, scoring twice, including the winner in the 86th minute, while providing the assist for their leveller.

Nasser Mohammedoh put Muharraq in front with a brilliant bicycle kick in the 17th minute, and then Waleed Al Karaoui doubled their advantage with a volley from inside the box in the 26th minute.

But Riffa began their comeback just three minutes into the second half when Al Aswad scored their first from close range after a misfired effort from teammate Vinicius Vargas Dos Santos.

They then equalised in the 65th minute with a header from Ali Haram off an Al Aswad assist.

Al Aswad then applied his magic touch in the 86th minute, scoring from an acute angle after controlling a long pass on his chest and then firing home.

Riffa claimed their second win in three games and improved to seven points, while Muharraq suffered their first loss and stayed on four.

In last night’s other fixture, Khaldiya romped past Al Ahli 7-1 in a hugely one-sided contest.

Khaldiya secured their second win and improved to seven points while Ahli suffered a second loss and stayed on three.
