Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport qualified both their cars in the top five yesterday for the final round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship 2023.

2 Seas’ Ian Loggie and Jules Gounon, driving the team’s #1 Mercedes AMG-GT3 contender, claimed third place on the starting grid for today’s two-hour race, while teammates James Cottingham and Philip Ellis, behind the wheel of 2 Seas’ #4 challenger, took the fifth starting position.

2 Seas, co-owned by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, already secured their historic first-ever GT3 Teams title in the previous meeting at Brands Hatch circuit last month, and are now hoping to take the drivers’ crown at today’s season-finale at Donington Park in the UK.

Cottingham and regular 2 Seas partner Jonny Adam are currently the leaders for the GT3 Drivers Championship but Adam is competing this weekend in the European Le Mans Series.

Today’s race is scheduled for a 3pm start, Bahrain time. Heading into the finale, Cottingham holds a 13-point lead on the Drivers’ Championship standings ahead of Darren Leung and Dan Harper of Century Motorsport.

Leung and Harper have the additional challenge of overcoming a 20-seconds Compensation Time penalty today, accrued for winning at Brands Hatch.

In the British GT’s previous meeting, 2 Seas scored enough points on the GT3 Teams Championship standings to wrap up the title race with a round to spare.

Heading into what has been dubbed as “the Donington Decider”, 2 Seas have won four of the eight races this British GT season.

Cottingham and Adam claimed three of those triumphs, which included races at Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal in round seven, Oulton Park in round one and at Donington Park in round four.

Loggie and Gounon triumphed the other time in the championship’s second round, also at Oulton Park.
