Da Costa Jr scores late winner for Najma

Edimar Ribeiro Da Costa Junior scored a late winner last night to help lift Al Najma to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over East Riffa to kick off the fourth week of action in the 2023/2024 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.

Da Costa Jr scored with six minutes left in regular time to give Najma their third win of the new season.

Earlier in the contest, Ahmed Koury and Mohammed Al Rumaihi were on target for their respective sides.

Koury opened the scoring for East Riffa in the 13th minute with a goal from inside the penalty area, but then Al Rumaihi equalised just nine minutes on.

That set the stage for Da Costa Jr’s decisive goal, which he headed in off a corner kick.

With the result, Najma improved to 10 points and rose to the top of the league table.

East Riffa, who led the standings heading into yesterday’s match, went to second with nine markers following their first loss.

League action continues tonight and tomorrow with two matches on the cards each evening.

Tonight, Sitra face off with Manama and Al Hala take on Hidd.

Tomorrow, Al Ahli play Muharraq and defending champions Al Khaldiya take on Busaiteen.

All games are scheduled to kick off at 7pm.
