Muharraq open league campaign with big win

Muharraq romped to a season-opening 112-65 victory over Sitra last night on the first evening of action in the 2023/2024 season of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Muharraq raced out to a commanding 38-19 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back in a completely one-sided contest, played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.
The victors went ahead by as many as 52 points in the game for the big result to get their new national league campaign underway.
Ali Husain led seven Muharraq players in double figures with 15 points.
Captain Bader Abdulla Malabes and American professional Julius Coles Jr chipped in with 14 apiece, while Mohammed Nasser scored 13.
Tyler Wilkerson, Muharraq’s second import from the US, had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
For Sitra, Mahdi Abdulameer finished with 22 points while Ali Fardan had 10 off the bench. League action continues tonight and tomorrow with two games each evening.
Tonight, Al Hala and Al Ettihad face off at 5.30pm, followed by Bahrain Club and Al Najma squaring off at 7.30pm.
Then, tomorrow, Ahli face off with Nuwaidrat at 5.30pm and then back-to-back defending champions Manama take on Samaheej at 7.30pm.
