Bahrain get tough Davis Cup group

Bahrain have been drawn in a tough Group A for the Asia/ Oceania Group V matches in the 2023 Davis Cup.
The zonal event is being hosted in the Kingdom with matches scheduled to begin today from 10am at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
Thirteen men’s national teams from across the continent are participating in the competition.
Bahrain’s senior men’s national tennis team are in Group A alongside Bhutan and Myanmar.
Group B features Yemen, Qatar and Nepal, while Group C includes Bangladesh, Mongolia and the Maldives.
Group D is composed of four teams, namely Brunei, Laos, Tajikistan and Macau.
The draw was held yesterday at the BTF headquarters along with the pre-tournament technical meeting.
All the competing squads from abroad have already arrived in Bahrain ahead of today’s start of play.
The Kingdom’s flag is being flown in the event by the quartet of Elyas Abdulnabi, Faris Altoobli, Shadi Kallel and Hasan Abdulnabi.
They are coached by Abdulkarim Abdulnabi.
Following a single round-robin in this opening stage, the top team from each of the four groups move on to the play-off round.
Two winners will then be promoted to Group IV for next year’s Davis Cup competition.
The Davis Cup is one of the premier world competitions for men’s tennis, run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The Kingdom is hosting Asia/Oceania group matches for the third successive year.
