The 2023/2024 national horseracing season gets underway today at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir. Eight races are on the cards, starting from 1.30pm.

All races will be held in honour and in memory of the Late His Highness Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa. The feature event is race seven, due off at 4.10pm. Run over 1,600m, the six-horse line-up includes one of the Kingdom’s winning most horses, Byline, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, while leading UK based rider, Jason Watson, takes the ride on the youngest horse in the race, Gumais, for owners Al Mohamediya Racing.

The new season at REHC is set to be more valuable than ever, with an improved race day experience providing something for everyone. Highlights include the $1m Bahrain International Trophy on 17 November and the return of the popular Bahrain Turf Series, running from December through to March.

After the turn of the year, attention will switch to the Crown Prince’s Cup on 2 February and the season finale, the King’s Cup, on 8 March. The REHC will be staging racing every Friday, as well as on seven Saturdays, until 8 March next year, and there are plenty of opportunities for families to enjoy a great day out.

A warm welcome awaits race-goers on each and every race day, with something for everyone, including a range of places to eat, exciting sport to watch, and on-site entertainment in the Turf Village for younger racegoers. Bahrain Turf Club CEO Yusuf Buheji commented: “This racing season promises to be our best yet in terms of the quality and competitiveness of the sport.

“Naturally, we are excited at the prospect of staging the first Bahrain International Trophy to be run for $1m and the calibre of the entries suggests it will be a race to not to missed on 17 November, but we are also looking forward to every race day due to the improved customer experience we will be offering, together with some thrilling action on the track.”
