East Riffa, A’ali advance in HM the King’s Cup

East Riffa and A’ali last night barged into the round of 16 in the 2023/2024 His Majesty the King’s Cup football tournament.
East Riffa booked their place following a 2-1 victory over Isa Town in the opening stage of the 24-team competition, while A’ali were 2-0 winners over Al Malkiya.
The four squads were in the first phase of eliminations, in which the remaining games pit Busaiteen against Bouri, Um Al Hassam against Budaiya, Al Ettifaq against Ettihad Al Reef, Bahrain Club with Galali, Al Ettihad against Al Najma, and holders Al Hala against Tadhamun.
East Riffa will next take on Manama in the round of 16, while A’ali will face Riffa.
In other fixtures for that stage, Muharraq play the winners of Bahrain Club-Galali, Al Shabab take on the winners of Ettihad-Najma, Sitra play the winners of Bouri-Busaiteen, Al Ahli face the winners of Um Al Hassam-Budaiya, and Hidd face the winners of Ettifaq-Ettihad Al Reef.
The HM the King’s Cup is the richest football competition in the Kingdom, with the winners taking home BD100,000 in prize money and BD50,000 going to the runners-up.
In the 2022/2023 His Majesty the King’s Cup, Hala were crowned champions after a heart-stopping 6-5 victory over Al Ahli in a hugely thrilling penalty shootout in the final.
The decider extended to an amazing 10 spot kicks per squad. The match had ended goalless after 90 minutes and the score remained nil-nil after 30 minutes of extra-time
